Police: Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes With Toddler in Car

Police arrested Carlos DeJesus of Middletown on Saturday evening after he slammed into a utility pole in Rockfall.

Police say a Middletown man was drunk and speeding when he crashed his car into utility pole in Rockfall over the weekend.

There was also a 3-year-old child in his backseat, according to police.

Carlos DeJesus, 46, of 50 Ferry Street, Middletown, was arrested on Saturday and charged with driving under the influence and traveling too fast.

According to police, shortly after 6:30 p.m., DeJesus was traveling north on Route 157 when he lost control of his 1994 Acura Vigor and struck a utility pole at the entrance to Rogers Manufacturing, located at 68 Main Street.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage but DeJesus refused medical treatment at the scene, police say.

DeJesus also refused to submit to a field sobriety test. He was taken to the Middletown Police Department for booking where he also refused to submit to a chemical breath test.

A three-year-old seated in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the crash was not injured, according to police. A female passenger from Waterbury was also not injured.

DeJesus was released on $500 bond. He's due in court July 19.
