Update: 2013-2014 School Budget Heads to Referendum Next Week

In just six days, the polls will open as voters in Durham and Middlefield decide whether to accept or reject next year's school budget proposal, a $36.61 million spending plan approved by the District 13 Board of Education last month.

Prior to the May 7 referendum, residents will have one final chance to voice their support, opposition or general thoughts about the budget at the district meeting scheduled for Monday, May 6 at 8 p.m. at the auditorium at Coginchaug High School.

Superintendent Susan Viccaro's original budget proposal has been reduced from a proposed net increase of 4.39 percent, to a 1.42 percent increase. Copies of the budget are available at Durham and Middlefield town halls and both libraries.

The polls will open Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. at Francis E. Korn Elementary School in Durham and the Middlefield Community Center, and will remain open until 8 p.m.
