A sinkhole that developed earlier this month at the two-year-old track at Coginchaug High School's athletic field is under repair.
The sinkhole, located in lane 8 just beyond the western entry to the track, was discovered on May 4 but will have little impact on the May 22 Shoreline Conference Track and Field Championship being held at the high school, officials said.
The lane will not be used because the surface needs time to set, said Robert Francis, District 13's supervisor of buildings and grounds.
The cost of the repair is unknown, although District 13 finance manager Ronald Melnik said the company that designed and built the track has been very responsive.
