Strong Students Take Third Place at CT Odyssey of the Mind
Students Lydia D'Amato, Mary Grace Fionella, Julia Davis, Abby Blair and Colleen Coogan — all of Middlefield — competed against teams from towns such as Greenwich, Darien, West Hartford and Westport.
A team of students from Strong Middle School recently earned third place at the 2013 Connecticut Odyssey of the Mind competition.
The event on Saturday, April 6 at Bristol Eastern High School challenged students' problem solving ability through creativity and teamwork.
"It really teaches the kids what they're going to have to do if they ever create a product or run a business," said the team's coach, Alice Blair.
Students Lydia D'Amato, Mary Grace Fionella, Julia Davis, Abby Blair and Colleen Coogan — all of Middlefield — competed against teams from towns such as Greenwich, Darien, West Hartford and Westport.
The United Youth Fellowship Junior High team was tasked with designing, building and operating three vehicles able to deliver and assemble parts to create a pet animal. Once completed, the animal was required to perform a trick.
The team was the only all-girl team to compete in the particular project. By finishing in third place, the junior high team team just missed out on an invitation to the organization's World Finals in Michigan next month.
Odyssey of the Mind recently celebrated its 35th year.
