UConn Future Educators to Host Science Night at Memorial School

5th and 6th grade students from Memorial Middle School are invited to Science Night on Monday, April 29.Β

The event is hosted by members of UConn Future Educators who will guide students through a series of science-based experiments and activities. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the school in Middlefield.

"Our members have been hard at work for a few weeks, planning and designing activities and lesson plans," said UFE member Charlotte Paquette. "They are very eager to work with the students. We always enjoy these events."

Each year, the student-based club at UConn holds four subject-themed events which follow the curriculum of the school. This is the first time the event has been held in District 13.

Students will have an opportunity to explore and learn about sound, the food chain, depth and light reflection, and other topics.

β€œI am very excited to work with the students at Memorial Middle School and to show them how fun and intriguing science can be.Β Hopefully they will be just as excited about science as I am," said Kelsey Janssen, another UFE member.

UFE consists of students planning a career in education or those who enjoy working with kids.Β UFE is one of six chapters in the Connecticut Education Association's Student Program (CEA-SP).

β€œUFE is such an amazing opportunity to get to know and teach students in our area. Science night is my favorite," said UConn students and UFE member Brianna Petruccio.

"We get to do hands on experiments that teach students about how the world works," she said.

Prizes will be raffled off at the end of the night.

"All the students have a blast," said UFE member Julie Barbash.
