From The Bench - EHHS Teams Get Ready for the Fall Season
The EHHS Fall Sports Teams are in Full Swing
Saturday morning East Haven High School fall sports were in full motion. The girls soccer team and boys football were on the field while the girls volleyball team was working hard in the gym. The sounds of whistles can be heard indoors and outdoors, coaches voices encouraging and correcting players and the enthusiasm of players wanting to get to their 1st game can be felt. Other than the heat, fall is on its way and so is fall sports.
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team is led by their 3 captains, Gianna Mendez, Sydney Herard and Gabby Gaetano. The girls are excited to be on the field. “We’ve been conditioning all summer and working on our technique.” Mendez said. Herard told me, “I like how we are coming together as a team”. That was evident watching them practice, “It’s like we know what the other person is going to do, and we react.” according to Gaetano. One thing is for sure these ladies are ready.

Football
Jason Toth and Dominic Salato were name the football team captains for the Easties this year. Both 4 year players and both lead by example. Both captains said, “This was our dream since playing youth football and football in our backyard that we would be captains and lead our team on the field.” Salato said that they have been working hard in the off season by conditioning and competing passing leagues. Toth said “Some of us have been living in the weight room, trying to get stronger.” “We’ll be ready, we can’t wait to get the season started”. From the Bench would like to wish these young men the best of luck.

Volleyball
In the gym at the high school the girls volleyball team is getting ready to make a strong run at each opponent. The girls are led by three veterans, all have seen extensive action as players. They are Autumn Clancy, Nicole Sangiovanni and Allie Stettinger. “We have been working very hard this off season and we are going to be ready when the season starts”, Sangiovanni said. Watching the team workout you could see the captains leadership from helping out younger players to communicating with other players on the court. Clancy is one player who is very anxious to get back on the court after missing last season with an injury, “I can’t wait” she said. Stettinger is a 3 sport athlete, volleyball, basketball and Track and Field. “I love sports I mean there is nothing like the nerves before a game and the feeling of a good win”. I am sure wins are what they will collect, best of luck this season.
From the Bench wishes all the fall sport teams all the best.
