Cooling Center Opens In East Haven As Temperatures Soar
Gov. Ned Lamont directed the state's "Extreme Hot Weather Protocol" activated effective today through noon Sunday.
EAST HAVEN, CT — Although much of the Connecticut coastline will escape the most extreme temperatures forecasted for other parts of the state, it's nonetheless going to be very hot with temperatures in the high 80s, exacerbated by high humidity leading to feel-like temps in the 90s.
Gov. Ned Lamont directed the state's Extreme Hot Weather Protocol activated effective today through noon Sunday. The purpose of this protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the hot conditions.
East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora and town Emergency Management Director, Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli, announced that a cooling center will be available for public use at the Town Beach House, 150 Cosey Beach Ave., from today through Sunday at noon.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 90 degrees with a heat index of 95–100 degrees. These conditions may cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke for people working outdoors. The elderly and very young are especially vulnerable to the heat. In addition, overnight lows will be an uncomfortable 70 – 75 F for anyone without air conditioning. The Fire Chief stressed that those vulnerable to the heat should remain inside in air-conditioning and if you must venture outside, stay well-hydrated.
