The monies were raised through a “penny wars” competition throughout the school. In the past two years Deer Run has raised over $3,000 as Principal Phyllis Savo has embraced this program with great enthusiasm and has been an inspiration to her school community for this very worthy program. Fund raising events again were coordinated by teachers at the elementary schools and the middle school located in East Haven.

On January 5th, some 75 worthy children (recommended by school administrators) and their parents/guardians met the Rotarians at Kohl’s Department Store in Branford and were able to shop for items of clothing totaling $100 per child. Through the generosity of Kohl’s Department store, an additional 20% discount was extend to the participants in addition to various sales prices, enabling them to purchase well over $120 of clothing for each child.
