East Haven Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli Named "Chief Fire Officer"

Chief of East Haven fire department awarded prestigious designation by firefighting organization

EAST HAVEN, CT - The Commission on Professional Credentialing on October 2, 2018, announced that Chief Matthew Marcarelli has been awarded the professional designation of “Chief Fire Officer.”

According to the Commission, Chief Marcarelli “becomes one of only 1,298 CFOs worldwide and among 8 in the State of Connecticut.”

The Commission further states that the designation recognizes individuals “who demonstrate their excellence in… experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement and technical competence.”

Mayor Joseph Maturo stated that “it was his pleasure to appoint Marcarelli as East Haven’s Fire Chief with the knowledge that he was appointing the best for East Haven.” Mayor goes on the say that he applauds Chief Marcarelli in his pursuit of excellence as an administrator for the department and the residents of the community he serves!

Chief Marcarelli began his career as a firefighter in New Haven in 1995. He rose through the New Haven Fire Department's ranks and served as an Assistant Drillmaster ('97-'98), Fire Lieutenant and Fire Captain ('98-'10), and Battalion Chief ('09-2017). From 2015 to 2016, he assumed the role of "Operations Chief" and "Acting Fire Chief," during which time he helped navigate the Department through a five-year plan to upgrade the Department from an ISO rating of "2" to "1," making it one of only two departments in the State to attain such a rating.
