East Haven Firefighters Support Striking Stop & Shop Workers

EAST HAVEN, CT - As the strike against Stop & Shop enters its second week, members of the East Haven Fire Department took to the streets displaying signs to show their support for the striking workers.

One of the signs tells shoppers of all the other grocery store options - besides Stop & Shop - available in East Haven and Branford.

The firefighters had this to say on their Facebook page:

The East Haven Stop & Shop strikers are among the more than 31,000 workers at 240 Stop & Shop stores in three states, including Connecticut, who have been on strike for more than a week.

The workers say the company is looking to cut benefits and wages.

Estimates are the strike is costing the company $2 million a day as though the company has put replacement workers in many of the stores many regular customers have decided to shop elsewhere instead of crossing the picket lines.
