East Haven High School Students Earn CHET Scholarships

Carla Anania and Brianna Grippo are the recipients of scholarships through the Connecticut Higher Education Trust Advance Scholarship Program.

Two East Haven teens have been selected as recipients of Connecticut Higher Education Trust scholarships for college.

Carla Anania and Brianna Grippo, both seniors at East Haven High School, are the recipients of $2,500 scholarships through the CHET Advance Scholarship Program.

“I am so proud of Carla and Brianna — two of East Haven’s shining stars,” state Rep. James Albis stated in a press release. “College is becoming more and more unaffordable for most families, so programs like the CHET Advance Scholarship are becoming more and more vital. T

Albis added that the scholarships "will go a long way for Carla and Brianna, especially considering that they plan to attend college in Connecticut."

"They are the future of East Haven and our state," he stated.

One hundred scholarships were awarded to students from across the state at a ceremony Wednesday at the State Capitol. 

No state funds are used for the scholarship. It is donation-based through the Connecticut Higher Education Trust, TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc. and The Hartford.

“The challenges of financing a college education are daunting enough. Add to that our economy’s slow recovery, and we know that many Connecticut families are struggling to provide a solid future for their children,” State Treasurer Denise Nappier stated in the release. “For students with the drive to attend college, CHET Advance offers them an opportunity to realize their dream. It will assist students to go as far as their talents will take them.”
