East Haven Man Buys Drugs For Dogs, Used Them Himself: Police

Guilford police arrested an East Haven, saying he was obtaining drugs from vets in Guilford and shoreline area supposedly for his dogs

Guilford Police arrested an East Haven man on a warrant issued by New Haven Superior Court for cruelty to animals, four counts, illegally obtaining drugs, six counts, and doctor shopping, four counts.

Police said that James Cunnington, 33, had been obtaining prescription pain drugs from a number of vet offices in Guilford and the shoreline to treat suspicious reoccurring injuries to his two dogs and was in fact using the drugs himself.

Guilford police were assisted in the investigation by both the Guilford and East haven animal control offices and the East Haven police department.

Guilford animal control authorities took custody of the two dogs and had them examined and treated for their injuries. Both dogs remain in care of Guilford animal officials.

Cunnington was held on bond and arraigned.
