NEW HAVEN, CT — Saying it's at 60 percent "terminal design," and with the release of new color concept renderings of what's to come, Tweed New Haven Airport Authority and Avports noted this week its new 84,000-square-foot terminal and extended runway are a "new chapter" for the airport.

"As of Summer 2025," the Authority noted, being now more than halfway done is a "key milestone that reflects significant progress in layout, systems planning, and architectural design."

"While many core elements are in place, the design remains subject to change as we refine details and incorporate feedback on the path to final design," the Airport Authority said.

"As Mayor of East Haven, I have a duty to defend this community and its future. As I
have repeatedly said, this proposed expansion will have transformational impacts on East Haven—and not for the better. That is why, from the very beginning of the Environmental Assessment process, I directed the Town to retain independent experts to carefully evaluate this project. Their findings have been clear and consistent: the proposed terminal would bring serious environmental damage, overwhelming traffic impacts, heightened public safety risks, and heavy economic burdens on the Town.

Glossy drawings and new press releases cannot disguise the reality: this project poses serious risks and still faces a number of unresolved hurdles—traffic & environmental approvals, public safety concerns and Town Authority—all remain unsettled.

I am confident DEEP will fully and impartially evaluate the consequences of this proposal. East Haven will participate in that review to the maximum extent allowable under current laws and regulations. East Haven will also make sure that all appropriate and applicable local laws and regulations are adhered to, including, if necessary, utilizing any and all legal avenues available.

We have also appealed to the DC Court of Appeals in Washington DC, the FAA’s Finding of No
Significant Impact and final Environmental Assessment; that case is pending, with arguments yet to be scheduled.

The citizens of East Haven deserve nothing less than a firm defense of their environment, their safety, and the character of their community. I will not deviate from that duty."
