EAST HAVEN, CT — In a media release, East Haven Republican Town Committee Chairman Eric Kropiwnicki "condemned the recent vandalism of a campaign sign for Anthony Camposano, Republican candidate for Mayor."

"The sign, at the intersection of Kimberly Avenue and Forbes Place, was deliberately vandalized in what Chairman Kropiwnicki characterized as a personal assault on a family member of the mayoral candidate," the release reads.

The RTC accuses the Democratic Town Committee of vandalizing Camposano's sign.

"This vandalism was not just an attack on a sign—it was a personal attack on the Camposano family," Kropiwnicki wrote. "This behavior is disgraceful and does not represent the family values of East Haven."

In a statement emailed to Patch, Mayor Joseph A. Carfora said, "Defacing campaign signs, anyone’s signs, is wrong. I don’t condone it, and I never will. It’s unfortunate that things like this happen in every election season."

"I empathize with their frustration. We’ve had our signs damaged as well; we simply replace them and get back to work," Carfora said. "East Haven deserves better than petty distractions and vandalism. Our residents expect all campaigns to reflect a commitment to move our town forward. That’s exactly where my focus will stay."

East Haven police Capt. Joseph M. Murgo said in a statement that police received the complaint Thursday morning and "immediately began investigating."

"Contact has been made with residents and businesses in the area in search of video that will assist us in this investigation," Murgo said.

The probe has been turned over to the East Haven Police Investigative Services Division.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the vandalism taking place or who may have video that will assist us is asked to contact detective Jon Trinh at jtrinh@easthavenpolice.com or call us at 203-468-3820," Murgo said.
