EAST HAVEN, CT —The East Haven Police Department is actively investigating multiple Thursday burglaries in the area of Ellis and Brazos road, police said.

According to Capt. Joseph M. Murgo, suspects were seen "entering open garages and vehicles, stealing personal property, and fleeing in two suspect vehicles."

It was just after noon when patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Ellis Road following a report of individuals entering a garage while the homeowner was inside the residence, Murgo said.

Murgo said East Haven dispatchers told police that an "unidentified male suspect exited a dark-colored SUV and entered an open garage on Ellis Road", and then "rummaged through the homeowner’s black Jeep Grand Cherokee, stealing a wallet."

Police said that there were "two suspect vehicles observed in the area: a dark-colored Volkswagen Atlas and a gray BMW SUV."

Meanwhile, East Haven investigators had learned that the Guilford Police Department had recently reported a stolen black Volkswagen Atlas.

"In the East Haven burglary investigation, the VW Atlas did not have front or rear license plates affixed, however, Guilford Police confirmed that the stolen Atlas had a silver ski/roof rack, similar to what was observed in the video footage," Murgo said.

While attending the Ellis Road incident, a resident on Brazos Road flagged down officers to report that the same suspect vehicles were seen stopping in front of their house, Murgo said.

The person driving the Atlas, was described as a slender, light-skinned male, who "exited the vehicle, and entered an unlocked vehicle in the driveway," police said, adding, "stole money and other personal belongings within the vehicle."

Surveillance footage captured the BMW SUV, with CT registration BM20643. A check through COLLECT revealed that this registration belongs to a gray 2008 Honda Accord, which had been reported stolen out of New Haven.

The department is seeking assistance from the public as the investigation continues.

At this time, the suspects remain unidentified, and the investigation is ongoing.
