East Shore District Health Department Distributing Free Radon Kits

According to the CDC, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer deaths in the United States after cigarette smoking.

EAST HAVEN, CT — As noted by East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora on Facebook, the East Shore District Health Department is giving out free home radon kits to residents, while supplies last. The kits are available to East Haven, Branford and North Branford residents.

With the theme that, "Radon kills. Test your home today, save a life tomorrow," folks can get their free kit at the ESDHD, 688 E. Main St., in Branford. Call 203-481-4233 for more information.

January is National Radon Action Month, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention chose the last week of January to observe Radon Awareness Week.

January 27-31, 2025 is Radon Awareness Week. This year’s theme is “What’s Your Radon Story?” Each day of the week features facts about radon with related graphics, social media messages, and highlighted radon story:
