Shoplifter Tasered Worker Who Tried To Stop Him: EH Police

The accused shoplifter at Stop & Shop also tried to taser an employee who tried to stop the theft, police said.

EAST HAVEN, CT - At 2:04 p.m. Friday East Haven Police officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at Stop and Shop, 370 Hemingway Avenue, East Haven, CT.

Upon arrival, it was learned that a male party displayed and activated a Taser on an employee who attempted to prevent the shoplifting, escalating the incident to a robbery, police said. The taser was activated and the male party advised the employee to step away, police said.

The employee was not struck by the taser. The male suspect then fled into the parking lot with the merchandise, which was approximately $150 worth of meat, police said.

The male was observed entering the passenger seat of AS21275, which comes back to a black 2005 Ford Escape with gray bumpers, police said Anyone with information regarding the identity of this suspect is asked to contact police at 203-468-3820, or they can inbox the department on its Facebook page.

The attached pictures are of the suspect vehicle bearing CT Reg # AS21275 and of the suspect walking through the parking lot, who appears to be a heavy set Hispanic male wearing a heavy black coat, baseball hat, dark blue or black jeans and white sneakers, police said in a news release.
