Fire Dept. Out $1000's To Repair Hydrants Damaged By Hit & Run Drivers

Some 9 hydrants are out of service due to evading/uninsured drivers, with fire dept. able to recoup repair costs for only 1 so far: FD.

EAST HAVEN, CT — The charge of evading responsibility refers to a hit-and-run, either with or without property damage.

East Haven Fire Department Chief Matt Marcarelli took to Facebook to share that a number of fire hydrants have been struck and damaged by "evading" and/or uninsured drivers.

"Adding to the East Haven list of evaders, this hydrant at the intersection of Roma and Kenneth was recently struck between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. by an evading driver. There are currently nine fire hydrants out of service, and the department has only been able to recoup repair costs for one so far due to evading drivers or uninsured motorists. If anyone saw anything in this area today Jan. 15) between 1and 2 p.m., please contact the department."

Marcarelli then listed all the other fire hydrants that have been damaged by evading or uninsured motorists and the cost to repair/replace:
