EAST HAVEN, CT —When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

This submission comes from a friend and a customer about Grand Apizza owner and East Haven resident George Carranzo who has been feeding front line workers since the pandemic began.

What does the nominee do for work?:
They are a local pizzeria that partnered up with a long time customer and she raised money to feed the frontline workers. George decided to match pizza for pizza with times being hard during this pandemic. He is more worried about the frontline then his business. A true hero serving pizzas to hospital workers, EMT, police, and fire departments

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
For the past month or more George and his family have been donating pizza to the first responders. There is a GoFundMe page called Pizza for First Responders where people are making donations to feed our first responders. George matches all donations. Grand Apizza has remained open during all of this and 90 percent of the food going out the door is going to our police departments, fire departments, AMR, hospitals. If you look at their Facebook page you will see more. Such an amazing family doing so much during this pandemic.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
George is the most selfless person I know. He is always the first person to jump in and help anyone.
