Malloy Vetoes Bill That Would Have Paid East Haven Mayor Maturo $43k More Per Year
The proposed law would have allowed the East Haven Mayor to collect his disability pension along with his mayoral salary.

It looks like East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo will not get his $43,000 raise after all.
Late last week, Gov. Dannel Malloy vetoed a bill that would have allowed Maturo to collect his disability pension, which pays him $43,000 a year, while also earning his $75,000-a-year salary as mayor, according to the Hartford Courant. Maturo has not been collecting his pension since he became mayor in 2011.
Maturo began collecting the disability pension in 1991 after he hurt his back as a firefighter and was deemed disabled, according to the New Haven Register.
