Obituary: Linda Amarante, 85, of East Haven
A beloved East Haven teacher and principal, she loved theatre, and to read, travel, line dance, practice Tai-Chi, and play Mahjong and golf.
Linda Amarante, 85 of East Haven, formerly of Middlebury, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on December 21, 2023. The loving wife of the late Matthew C. Amarante, Jr., Mrs. Amarante was born in New Haven on January 26, 1938, to the late Paul and Ruth Jacobson. She was a graduate of East Haven High School and was the Class of 1955 Valedictorian. After high school, Linda graduated from New Haven State Teachers College (S.C.S.U) in 1959 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She furthered her education and earned two Master’s Degrees and a Sixth Year Degree in Administration, and maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her entire education.
Mrs. Amarante was a staple in the East Haven School System; a beloved teacher until 1987 when she was appointed as the Elementary Reading and Language Arts Coordinator for the district, and in 1991 was appointed as the Principal of the Robert Carbone Elementary School, a position she held proudly for 10 years, retiring in 2001.

Being very active even in retirement, she loved to read, travel, line dance, practice Tai-Chi, play Mahjong, golf, and enjoy the theatre. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and her friends. She enjoyed watching sports, whether it was her grandchildren’s sporting events or the UCONN Girls basketball team. She will be remembered as a very kind woman who always thought of everyone.
Mrs. Amarante is survived by her loving son Stephen (Christina) and the late Peter (Perie) Amarante, her brother Paul Jacobson; her grandchildren Chrisopher, Samantha, Matthew P., Emily, Matthew C. III, Averie, and Hanna Amarante, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Amarante’s funeral procession will leave East Haven Memorial Funeral Home THURSDAY December 28, 2023, at 10:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish- St Vincent DePaul Church, 80 Taylor Ave, East Haven. Mrs. Amarante will be laid to rest next to her husband immediately after Mass at All Saints Cemetery, Middletown Ave, North Haven. Calling hours will be WEDNESDAY December 27, 2023, from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM at East Haven Memorial Funeral Home, 425 Main ST East Haven, CT.
