Obituary: Mary Dixon, 96, of East Haven

Mary was a founding member of the GEMMS club, Post 150 American Legion Ladies Aux. and the Jolly Timers of New Haven.

EAST HAVEN, CT - (From Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home) Mary Dixon, 96, of East Haven, died Feb. 5th peacefully surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Richard Dixon.

Born in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Agnes Puglia Damiano. Mary worked as a medical secretary at both Yale and the V.A. Medical Center.

Known as the family seamstress, she enjoyed bowling and UConn women's basketball. She became the family matriarch and took that role very seriously.

She was a founding member of the GEMMS club, post 150 American Legion Ladies Aux., and the Jolly Timers of New Haven.

She is survived by daughters; Mrs. William (Mary Jayne) Somers of Wallingford and Mrs. Frank (Donna) Anastasio of Danielson, a daughter in law Sharon Dixon, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son Richard, a brother Ralph Damiano and sisters JoAnn Torello, Jayne Palmieri, Evelyn Hedglin, and Annette Smith.

Friends are invited to attend a service Wednesday 10:30 A.M. at the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave. in Hamden.

Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 9 - 10:30 A.M. with interment at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
