Recount To Take Place Following Tuesday's Primary Vote
Due to several results of the Sept. 10 primary that ended in a tie vote, the town will hold a recount.

Following this week's Democratic Primary vote in which mayoral candidate Jack Stacey won over Gary DePalma in a vote of 969 to 839, there will be an automatic recount for other positions on the slate.
There is no recount on the votes for mayor.
The recount will happen for the following candidates:
- District 1, 2, 3, 4 town council candidates
- Board of Finance candidates
- Board of Education candidates
The recount will take place at the East Haven Senior Center, Saturday, Sept. 14 beginning at 8am.
According to Town Clerk Stacy Gravino-Piccirillo, who spoke with a representative from the Secretary of State's Election Enforcement Department, it has been determined that if the recount still results in a tie vote, the town could hold a run-off election.
Another alternative, said Gravino-Piccirillo, is that one of the two candidates decides to drop out of the race.
In the past, if two candidates were tied, a coin toss determined the winner, said Gravino-Piccirillo.
The town hasn't encountered that issue recently, nor has it held a primary anytime soon. The last primary in town was held in 1997 for the Democrats.
Representatives from the campaigns may be present to observe Saturday's recount. Candidates will be notified of the results by the town's Registrar of Voters Office.
