'Suspicious Persons Complaint' Leads To 2 Juveniles Arrests: East Haven Police

EAST HAVE, CT — Two juveniles are facing burglary and larceny offenses stemming from an early Friday incident in East Haven, police said.

At 12:48 a.m. Friday, police responded to a complex at 216 Laurel Street for a suspicious persons complaint.

"As units were making their way to the area, dispatch advised that several individuals were in the parking lot checking car door handles and were last seen entering a gray vehicle," said Capt. Joseph M. Murgo. "Upon Officer Ryan Michalowski’s arrival, he observed the gray vehicle in question, a Kia Rio, occupied by two individuals backing out of a space.

"Officer Michalowski placed his vehicle behind the Kia and activated his overhead lights. The operator of the Kia proceeded to back into Officer Michalowski’s cruiser in an attempt to get away, but then exited the vehicle and fled on foot towards Laurel Street," Murgo said in a news release. "A juvenile passenger, who stayed in the vehicle, was immediately taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the East Haven Police Department for processing."

The second juvenile was taken into custody after being found at a residence, police said.

Both juveniles are charged with burglary and larceny offenses.

"We would like to commend the quick action taken by the good Samaritan who called in the suspicious activity. We would also like to remind our residents to call us immediately if they suspect criminal behavior is taking place in their complexes or neighborhoods," Murgo said.
