Carreras, Jaconski, Smith: Recent Death Notices From Ellington And Somers

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent death notices from Ellington and Somers.

Julio Carreras Jr., 78, of Ellington, partner of 30 years of Gary Faber, passed away on May 20, 2025. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served with distinction during the conflict in Vietnam. When he completed his service, he attended Baruch College, where he received a Bachelor degree in business. Prior to his retirement, he had been a credit manager in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry.

Barbara (Steppe) Jaconski, 89, a lifelong resident of Ellington, died May 15, 2025. She is survived by the most important people in the world to her: her son, P. Kurt Jaconski of Coventry; her daughter, Elizabeth Burke of Tolland; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her four-legged companion Surprise, and her special nieces, Penny and Pat, with whom she immensely enjoyed their monthly coffee get-togethers.

Donald "Batman" Smith, 65, passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2025. He was a great friend to many. He always greeted others with an enthusiastic hello and a random fact that was pertinent and interesting. He loved music and all the nostalgia and interesting facts about the artists and bands that he loved.
