SOMERS, CT — With a weather forecast predicting better than a 50 percent chance of rain Saturday, many area events are being postponed. Not the annual Somers Scarecrow Festival, however, which will now have most activities take place inside the barns at the Four Town Fairgrounds.

"It will actually be a fun thing to do with the kids on a rainy day!" organizer Kara Wolters told Patch. "We will have Ana and Elsa doing a Frozen show at 11:30 and a magician at 2:15, along with games, face painting, pumpkin patch, balloon animals, glitter tattoos, HUGE raffle, food trucks and 100 crafters."

A perennial highlight of the day is "Genevieve's Sweet Shot," conducted to raise funds for a scholarship established in memory of Somers High School student Genevieve Neiman. A version of the popular carnival dime toss game, players landing their coins completely within a spot win a Geissler's cake.

"People can buy a cake for $8 to be donated for Genevieve’s game to raise money for her scholarship fund," Wolters said. "People can go to the bakery at Geissler's to sign up and then pay for it when you check out at customer service."

The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is just $3 for adults and free for kids, with all money raised going to Somers Social Services, including its Adopt a Family Christmas Program.
