Condolences are extended to the families and friends of those who have recently died.

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent death notices from Ellington and Somers.

Lisa (Popovich) Regan, 64, of Somers, devoted wife of the late Kevin R. Regan., passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025 after a year-long battle with brain cancer. Lisa and Kevin married in 1983 and lived in the Boston area until moving to Somers in 1994. She worked in retail customer service, where she took pride in helping her customers and in the close friendships she formed with her colleagues. When suddenly diagnosed with glioblastoma in spring 2024, she had every right to give up. but instead would say, “I will not just curl up into a ball and die; I’m going to fight.” She gave it everything she had, and continued to support her children and make memories over the last year.

Earl Spielman, 82, of Ellington, passed away on March 31 after a valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was a licensed plumber, a very talented stone mason and Cchief of the Ellington Fire Department from 1974 - 1977. He was a farmer at heart, which was evident if you visited Cabin Hill Greenhouses where he and his beloved wife Gail grew the best flowers around for more than 20 years. Whether he was figuring out how to build Gail's newest display idea or bush-hogging the hay fields Earl was happiest when he was working outside. He never said no when someone asked for help, and he waved to everyone as he drove, even if he did not know them.
