Party Affiliation: Democrat

Occupation: Retired (Early Childhood Education and Stafford Family Resource Center)

Family: I've been married for 48 years and have two adult sons and six grandchildren who attend the Enfield school system.

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? No. None of my family members works in politics or government.

Previous public office, appointive or elective: No. This is my first time running as a candidate for public office, and I have never held an appointed position.

Why are you seeking this office?

I am seeking office because I am a lifelong resident of Enfield and want to be a voice for my neighbors and all members of the Enfield community to make sure their needs are met.

I understand that the future of Enfield is based on meeting the needs of our children's education and the quality of life for our senior citizens.

I will push for keeping low costs for families in our town, advocate for safe neighborhoods by supporting our police department, and invest in our neighborhoods and public spaces to make our town a more desirable place to live.

In order to accomplish these goals, I firmly believe that we have to take a harder look at our town's budget to make sure we save money where we can in order to ease the burden on our town's taxpayers, but also properly fund and invest in our town's people to ensure a better quality of life for all of our residents.

I also feel that it is important to keep civility and respect when working with others who may have different opinions and views.

If elected, I am also here to serve them.

As a local elected official, I feel it would be my duty and responsibility to make logical and successful decisions together.

I believe there is no better time to call for an Enfield that is united.

The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it: All residents and families that have chosen to live and stay in Enfield have made an investment in their homes and want local officials to ensure that their investment is protected.

They want to see that their home values won't depreciate and that their tax dollars are not wasted.

In order to protect their property value, the town needs a quality school system that will attract families and businesses.

By making sure that our schools are properly funded, investing in our public spaces, as well as our community services, we will make Enfield a thriving and desirable community.

The return on this investment will boost our local economy as businesses will want to make Enfield their home, which will lessen the burden on our residential taxpayers.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

The major difference between my opponent and me is that we have different philosophies and views on how to manage the town's budget.

My opponent believes that cutting the budget to the absolute minimum, across the board, is the solution to solving our tax burden.

I feel that approaching our town's budget needs a more nuanced approach.

The best example of this is how we view the funding of our town's public education system.

We have been through many years where we have repeatedly withheld proper funding for our public school system.

This includes the maintenance of our public school buildings to adequately staff our classrooms, and has severely impacted our programs and critical support systems for our students.

My opponent thinks this is fiscal responsibility, where I disagree.

After years of not properly funding these budgets, we now have schools and public buildings that are in disrepair and students in overcrowded classrooms that can't get the academic support and services that our students deserve.

The result has now put the burden on our town residents to pay a lot for repairs and broken systems that we should have just responsibly maintained over the years. These are very big expenses.

I don't believe that this is being financially responsible. In the long run, our town residents will pay more for these costs, and it will negatively impact and hurt our students along the way.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Improving communication with town residents and with our state legislature to get the proper funding and support that Enfield deserves.

In my time walking through neighborhoods and knocking on doors during this campaign season, it became very clear to me that our town residents want to see better transparency and communication from local officials to the people.

Trust is a fundamental piece to making this community work and uniting us together to accomplish our goals and vision for our town's future.

Enfield is the gateway into Connecticut. It is the first stop on Interstate 91 coming south from Massachusetts.

Enfield should be a showcase town for our state, where all travelers passing through can see what makes our state so great.

We cannot do this without the help of our state officials. We need funding for infrastructure and capital improvement projects.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence that you can handle this job?

I was an officer of the Hazardville Memorial School PTO, a director with the Enfield Soccer Club during its rapid growth in membership.

I was also a committee member for 10 years for the July 4th Town Celebration.

During my career as the coordinator for the Stafford Family Resource Center, I managed the budget and wrote grants for our programs, such as the School Readiness Program and Head Start.

During my time at the Family Resource Center, I worked to support Stafford's families with resources and services to ensure their family's success.

Through my experiences, I was successful in my leadership positions that required me to balance budgets, work, and serve community members, and have given me in-depth knowledge on what is required to support local school systems.

In the process of working in these positions, I have found that the results of community success are often found in forming strong and trusting relationships.

These are the skills and experiences that I will bring with me as a serving member on the Town Council.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

My wonderful grandmother always said we all need to be "good listeners" because everyone needs to be heard.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I care deeply about this town and our community.

I have lived here all my life (74 years). I am a fourth-generation resident of Enfield, and my grandchildren are the sixth generation of our family to call Enfield home.

I am retired and feel it is my time to give back to the community that has given me so much in my life and I want to ensure my grandchildren and all future generations will have the same wonderful experiences that I've had in this town.

I am running for them, I am running for my neighbors, I am running for all of us that call Enfield home.

Together, we will continue to make Enfield a wonderful home and community.

I firmly believe a community is only as strong as its members.

We need to be united by taking the time to understand and listen to one another. That is how I plan to lead our community, and I hope you will give me that opportunity on Nov. 4.
