5 Enfield-Area Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season
Here's how to contribute locally on Giving Tuesday 2024.
ENFIELD, CT — If you’re like many of your neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.
Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in and near Enfield.

Here is a sampling of nonprofit organizations to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:
- The Enfield Safe Harbor Warming Center exists as a part of Enfield People for People, formed to create shelter for homeless, heatless neighbors in Enfield during frigid New England winters. Space is provided due to the kindness of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Enfield, where homeless neighbors are invited to seek shelter from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., January through March.
- Enfield Loaves & Fishes is a soup kitchen which receives no government funding for operations, and relies solely on tax-deductible donations to keep its doors open and guests fed.
- The Enfield Food Shelf acquires funds for its operating expenses from a combination of fundraising initiatives, grants and monetary donations from individuals, businesses, religious and civic organizations.
- The aim of the Enfield Community Cat Project is to work with the town of Enfield to rescue homeless and abandoned cats. This group is to help the community cats within the town, to provide veterinary treatment to sick or injured cats as well as foster homes while seeking a permanent home.
- The Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame, founded in 1995, pays tribute to the town's rich athletic history, as well as providing scholarship opportunities for deserving high school seniors.
