ENFIELD, CT — With daily high temperatures barely exceeding the freezing mark (after all, it is January in New England), a generous person or people are doing their bit to assist less fortunate neighbors get through the bone-chilling conditions.

Late Tuesday afternoon, local resident Bob Kahn sent the following note and the above photo to Patch:

"Found this on Pearl St. today. Someone is doing a good thing to help the less fortunate stay warm in these frigid temperatures."

On an iron fence at the corner of Pearl and High streets, someone had placed more than 15 knit hats and several scarves. When Patch went to the site Wednesday morning for a story, the apparel was all gone.

Who placed the items there remains a mystery. Patch knocked on the door of a multi-family home adjacent to the site, but there was no answer. When contacted via phone, the secretary at St. Patrick's Church, directly across the street from the corner property, said she had no idea who was responsible for the good deed.

Anyone who has any information about this wonderful gesture is asked to contact Tim Jensen at tim.jensen@patch.com.
