ENFIELD, CT — The Asnuntuck Community College Food Pantry will receive $8,614 after it was voted a winner of American Eagle Financial Credit Union's (AEFCU) quarterly donation program.

The food pantry was among three nonprofits to win money in the third quarter of AEFCU's Cash Back to the Community program, after the organizations earned the most votes from community members.

Dr. Michelle Coach, CEO of Asnuntuck Community College, said the college was honored to be selected as a recipient.

"Food insecurity has been a struggle for many of our students, and it was exacerbated by the pandemic," Coach said. "This donation will make an immense difference in a significant number of our students' lives — and they are our community."

Youth development center Our Piece of the Pie, Inc. and the Southington Girls Softball League were also awarded funds from the AEFCU, which donates 1 percent of its credit and debit card interchange income to three nonprofit and/or 501(c)(3) organizations four times a year.

Funding is generated each time an American Eagle Financial Credit Union member uses their AEFCU credit or debit card, officials said, and a combination of the Credit Union's members and the public voted on the recipients.

"One of the few things that compares to the excitement of announcing our Cash Back to the Community winners throughout the year is witnessing how this program is helping local organizations grow and continue their important work in our service area," Dean Marchessault, President & CEO of AEFCU, said. "Congratulations to our winners, both past and present, and thank you to all those who were nominated and voted."

AEFCU's last donation round of 2021 will begin in a few weeks, Marchessault said.
