Curran, Hosley, Hurley, Mahon: Recent Death Notices From Enfield

ENFIELD, CT — Here are some recent death notices from Enfield.

Joan (Avery) Curran, 80, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at her beloved summer home at Mineral Springs Campground in Stafford Springs. Upon marrying her beloved husband John (Jack) on July 4, 1968, they lived briefly in East Hartford before deciding Enfield is where they wanted to raise their family and moved into the very house in which she was raised. In retirement they moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, before moving back to Somers in 2017 to be closer to family, ultimately settling right back in Enfield. Jack and Joan shared 54 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2022. She dedicated many years to the Enfield school system as a librarian, nurturing a love of reading in countless students.

William Hosley Jr., 70, beloved husband of 40 years of Christine Ermenc, passed away suddenly at his home on July 2. Bill developed a passion for historic landscapes and artifacts at Vermont Academy. He was a 1977 graduate of Middlebury College and earned a master’s degree from The Winterthur Program in Early American Culture in 1980. As a curator at the Wadsworth Atheneum from 1980 to 1997, Bill created many exhibitions and authored several books including The Great River: Art and Society of the Connecticut Valley (1985), The Japan Idea: Art and Life in Victorian America (1990), and Colt: The Making of An American Legend (1996) as well as dozens of articles. He became well-known nationwide as an historian, preservationist, writer and photographer, leading the Connecticut Landmarks organization with their fleet of historic house museums from 1997 to 2004, then as executive director at the New Haven Museum from 2006 to 2009. in cemeteries.

Wayne Hurley, 75, beloved husband of Janice Hurley, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Wayne spent his early years in Manchester before his family settled in Enfield, where he lived the remainder of his life. A graduate of Enfield High School, Class of 1968, Wayne served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After returning home, Wayne began a long and dedicated career as a tractor-trailer driver, working in freight transportation as a proud member of the Teamsters Union, Local 671, until his retirement. After retiring, he worked part time for Camerota Truck Parts in Enfield. On May 16, 1975, Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Janice Hayward. This year, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, a milestone reflecting a lifetime of devotion.

Patrick Mahon, 75, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, at Parkway Pavilion. A lifelong resident of Enfield, Patrick graduated from Enfield High School with the Class of 1967. He was the proud owner and operator of the former Kap Keg Liquor Store and later brought his dedicated work ethic to Kodak and HP Hood. Known for his warm and sociable nature, Patrick found his greatest joy in time spent with family and friends. He was always ready with a good story, a hearty laugh, and never passed up a round of golf or a gathering that brought people together.
