ENFIELD, CT — One of the few remaining businesses in the beleaguered Enfield Square shopping center has announced its imminent closure.

Moz Pizza, which has served fresh grinders and pizza slices since opening in 2024, announced via a light-hearted, yet poignant Facebook post that it will be shutting its doors after this weekend - at least, for the time being.

The post began, "A Slice of Sad News," then explained, "Financial hardship and low sales have made it impossible for us to continue at this location. Our efforts to stay afloat through online orders just aren’t cutting it either — especially after delivery commissions eat their slice."

Owner Hilmi Sevimli, who moved to the United States from Turkey in 1980, has established several businesses, but faced an uphill battle with his pizza establishment inside the decaying mall.

Plans are in the works for demolition of the existing building and redevelopment into a mixed-use commercial/residential venue. An exact time frame has not yet been finalized.

Sevimli has not given up on the business, scouting numerous potential new sites. He said, "We did look into many locations suggested by our patrons and either build cost or renovations did not add up. It’s just a pivot and when the right time comes, we will be back."

In his post dated Thursday, Sevimli said the eatery will be open "for one last week," Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. He is offering a $10 special on a margherita pizza, featuring San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil.

Orders may be called in at 860-712-7347, or placed online at www.moz.pizza. Delivery is available via DoorDash and GrubHub.
