ENFIELD, CT — In June 1985, Ronald Reagan had just started his second term as U.S. President, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears For Fears was the biggest hit song in America, and a gallon of gas would set you back about $1.15. The Enfield Square was hopping regularly, with a variety of great stores and the most amazing food deal of all time: a slice of pizza and soda at L'Expo for 99 cents.

At the town's two public high schools, great things were happening on playing surfaces. Earlier that season, Enfield won its second straight Class M field hockey championship, and the Fermi cheerleading team ranked No. 13 in the nation. Both of those squads were eventually inducted into the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame.

A quick glance through the 1985 school yearbooks yielded an obvious trend: center parts were on the way out, and Aquanet was starting to take over. Burner 'staches also seemed to be all the rage.
