Enfield PD Issues Traffic Alert For Town Worker's Funeral

The funeral for a beloved town employee who died last week will take place mid-week, resulting in traffic delays in a busy stretch of road.

ENFIELD, CT — Local police have issued a traffic warning for Wednesday, Sept. 17, due to an anticipated funeral procession for a fallen town employee killed in a tragic accident last week.

According to the Enfield Police Department, delays are likely on South Road and King Street between 11 a.m. and noon "due to a funeral procession honoring our beloved Jamie Nickerson, a dedicated member of our town's team."

Nickerson, 51, died unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 12. He was a longtime employee in the Enfield Department of Public Works.

Due to the funeral, the town's DPW (including offices and the transfer station) will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The town, meanwhile, will pick up trash/recycling before and after this time frame for Wednesday.

Anything that isn't collected on Wednesday will be picked up on Thursday.

"If we are unable to finish Thursday's run, we will finish on Friday, as well as doing yard waste," wrote the town's DPW.
