ENFIELD, CT — A police dog played an instrumental role in locating a burglary suspect inside a Thompsonville home Thursday afternoon.

Around 1:36 p.m., police responded to a home on Garden Street upon a report of a burglary in progress. The homeowner told officers a man had forced entry into his home, and was seen on cameras inside the residence as police arrived.

Police canine Dunkin was then utilized for a building search. After clearing three floors, he was then tasked with searching the basement, where a window was found to be broken. After multiple announcements were made for the suspect to give up and receiving no response, Dunkin entered the basement, and located and apprehended the man, who was hiding under construction debris, police said.

Marcus Garcia, 30, was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, first-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. Bond was set at $7,500.
