Enfield Resident Killed In Crash On I-84, ID Released: State Police
The Enfield resident's vehicle ended up partially submerged in a pond, state police said.
UNION, CT — Carlos A. Vega, 45, of Enfield, was killed in a two vehicle crash on I-84 Thursday, state police said.
At 2 a.m. Thursday, two tractor trailers were traveling on I-84 Eastbound in Union. A tractor-trailer driven by a Massachusetts resident was traveling in the right lane of three, state police said.
Vega, who was driving a 2024 Ryder Truck, was traveling in the center lane of three, and state police said Vega "veered right for an unknown reason" and subsequently struck another tractor-trailer.

Vega's vehicle overturned and slid on the roadway into the right shoulder, damaging approximately 250 feet of metal beam guardrail, state police said in a news release.
Both vehicles continued down the embankment. One tractor-trailer came to an uncontrolled final rest approximately 20 feet off of the right shoulder, partially submerged in Morey Pond, state police said. Vega's vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest on its roof approximately 25 feet off the right shoulder, partially submerged in Morey Pond, state police said.

The Massachusetts resident sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Rockville General Hospital by Willington EMS. Vega sustained fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead.
