Enfield Residents Awarded UTI Scholarships

Enfield residents Justin Michael and Zachary Smith were recently named Universal Technical Institute (UTI), scholarship winners for their successful efforts in the Diesel Equipment Technology Competition at A.I. Prince Technical High School in Hartford.

Michael and Smith, who attend Howell Cheney Technical High School in Manchester, were awarded a $2,000 scholarship and $1,000 scholarship, respectively.

Michael won third place and the bronze level award in the SkillsUSA Connecticut event, a "showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation," according to its Web site. Smith finished fourth.

“Our students do exceptionally well at the SkillsUSA State competition, which is a credit to Cheney’s program and staff,” said Joseph Hollay, head of the Cheney's Diesel and Heavy Equipment Repair.
