"The process for procurement will begin shortly," said Enfield Fire District No. 1 Chief Ed Richards, adding the department won't see the pumper truck for a while.

"As it stands now, the lead time for delivery after contract signing is 36-48 months," he said Friday.

When it does arrive, the new truck will replace the current 2007 pumper, and funding from the district’s general fund will be used for a down payment.

Pumper trucks are vital to any fire department, but they're especially necessary for departments that serve rural neighborhoods that might not have easy fire hydrant access.

A modern pumper truck will help ensure a sufficient water supply to any potential fires and require less costly maintenance to keep it operational.
