ENFIELD, CT — It's hard to fathom a business being located on a state road in the middle of a commercial district could be classified as "hidden." However, being located at the bottom of a decline (headed northbound) causes many cars to zoom by at 50 to 200 miles an hour. When it comes to Enfield Produce and Deli, they have no idea what they've been missing.

Since buying the established store then known as Enfield Produce in 2019, Ron and Lauren Urena have strived to create a family-friendly atmosphere. While mom or dad shop for groceries, kids enjoy a play area with a "free little library," a coloring station and play kitchen. Miniature shopping carts are also available for even the tiniest patrons.

The first thing the Urenas did upon acquiring the store at 565 Enfield Street was add a deli, featuring top-quality meats and cheeses. The aisles are stocked with food and beverage items of all kinds, including some products from Ron's native Dominican Republic. Other international tastes - including Hispanic, Polish and Italian - can also be satisfied at the shop.

While northbound drivers can often whiz right by, an eye-catching attraction is easily visible to those heading southbound. On the side wall facing Montano Road is an 85-foot mural, designed by Enfield Chris Gann. It features produce in the foreground, and a series of town landmarks in the background. It also depicts a young customer named Brittney, who died of cancer at age 5, as well as the Urenas' two children.
