ENFIELD, CT — It is time for the holidays, a time for giving, and in the spirit of the season, I am feeling generous and wish to reward a lucky Patch reader who shares my interest in Enfield history, sports and generally useless information.

Welcome to the inaugural Enfield Patch trivia contest. We will ask a dozen totally random questions about Enfield, ranging from the 1700s to today, and covering topics such as schools, athletics, infrastructure, entertainment, history and more.

What's in it for you? Well, the prize for our first winner will be a $25 Frank Pepe's gift card.

How do you play? There is only one way to enter, and that is by answering these questions in an email only, sent to tim.jensen@patch.com. Your best bet is to copy and paste the questions into an email, then write your answers following each question. Please include your first and last name.

Speaking of copy and paste, there are some people who will just do that, as nearly every answer can be found with a bit of research. Therefore, to ensure it does not turn into a race to see who can Google and copy-and-paste the fastest, we will accept entries until 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22. At that time, the readers with the most correct responses will be entered into a random drawing for the prize.

We will publish the correct answers and name our initial winner Monday morning. If you are the winner and arrange to receive your card right away, you could be enjoying a delicious New Haven-style pizza whilst taking a break from battling the last-minute crazies at Buckland Mall or the dreamers at Mohegan Sun.

Again, responses are to be sent to me via email only. Not posted on Facebook, or via U.S. mail (what is this, 1997?) or by smoke signal.

With all that being said, we unveil our debut list of 12 completely arbitrary questions. Good luck and have fun!

  1. Prior to the Kamerer family buying Grassmere Country Club in 1983, it had been known by what name?
  2. What was the name of the famous influential sermon preached in Enfield in 1741?
  3. Where was the original location of Asnuntuck Community College?
  4. What Enfield High School graduate became the lead dancer on the legendary Carol Burnett Show? (spelling counts on this one)
  5. There are 15 streets in the Presidential section of town. Another 13 U.S. presidential surnames can be found on street signs around town that are NOT in the Presidential section. Name eight of those 13. NOTE: duplicate names such as Grant Rd. and Grant St. would only count once, and since I mentioned it, Grant cannot be one of your answers. So now it's name eight of the remaining 12.
  6. What academic distinction will forever belong to Emma Zorda, and no one else?
  7. In 1910, which famous philanthropist donated the funds necessary to establish the Enfield Public Library at 159 Pearl Street?
  8. Formerly part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Enfield became a Connecticut town in 1749. What other three current towns in the Nutmeg State seceded from Massachusetts at the same time?
  9. What was the first team from Enrico Fermi High School to win a Central Connecticut Interscholastic League (CCIL) championship?
  10. What is Enfield's longest-tenured family-owned business?
  11. Similar to question 5: there are 16 individual electees of the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame (not counting George Daly Award winners or members of inducted teams) whose last names are the same as road names in town. Name 10 of the 16 honorees (first and last names).
  12. In what month and year did Enfield Patch launch?
