LETTER: How You Can Help Our Rising Stars

Educating our students involves a partnership between the school system, the community and several outside organizations. We are fortunate to have groups like ERfC (Educational Resources for Children) and KITE (Key Initiatives to Early Education) in Enfield, along with their numerous contributors and volunteers. These groups provide invaluable services enhancing learning experiences for children. Now a new organization is looking to provide opportunities for civic education and involvement, preparing our children for a lifetime as engaged citizens.

“Our mission is to promote educational initiatives providing practical opportunities for students to experience and to learn about American civic life based on the principles envisioned and enshrined by our Founding Fathers in the US Constitution and its amendments” said K. David Schultz, Chairman of Rising Starts For Connecticut’s Future, Inc. “We hope to inspire and nurture great love and appreciation for the blessings of liberty and respect for individual freedom granted to each citizen in the United States of America.”

The purpose of the Rising Stars program is to provide real-life opportunities to experience and learn about civic life. Over the next year, the organization plans to sponsor essay contests and generate government-shadowing opportunities. Through these programs, our youngest citizens can enhance their capacity to function as active and engaged future voters, community members and leaders.

These organizations supporting various educational initiatives could not exist without the generous financial support from the community. Schools help prepare students for the next phase of their life. Part of that next phase is becoming a motivated and informed member of the electorate. This is where Rising Stars For Connecticut’s Future will participate. Our organizations will help our children better understand how government works and think critically about the issues impacting society and become better informed.
