ENFIELD, CT — A political newcomer and longtime member of the Hartford Police Department was sworn in Tuesday afternoon as the new District 3 representative on the Enfield Town Council.

Jeffrey Rousseau, a captain and commander of the Hartford Detective Bureau, fills the seat vacated by the resignation of Councilor Doug Finger in July. He was one of a number of candidates interviewed by the Enfield Republican Town Committee for the position.

"I would be honored to serve on the town council, and I’m humbled the ERTC has put their faith in me to fill the seat vacated by Councilman Finger and will do my best for the district with respect and dignity," he said.

A soccer player at Agawam High School, he captained the team before playing collegiately at Western New England University. He later returned to coach at his high school alma mater. Under his leadership, the Enfield Soccer Association has grown from 20 members to more than 1,000.

Rousseau said he is interested in recreational fields and facilities, understands taxes must be
reasonable and well-spent, and the town's infrastructure needs constant attention. Those top three items will be his priority, and he looks forward to meeting the people of his district – when he begins his 'in-district' meetings.

He and his wife Megan have two children in the Enfield school system.
