Woman 'Violently Assaulted' By Ex-Boyfriend, Enfield Police Say

The assault happened early Christmas morning and led to two arrests, Enfield police say.

ENFIELD, CT — A woman was assaulted early Christmas morning at a home on Pearl Street, leading to two arrests, according to the Enfield Police Department.

Police said officers were called to the home around 5:30 a.m. on Christmas after a 911 call reported an assault. When officers arrived, they found a woman who said her ex-boyfriend had "violently assaulted" her. Emergency medical crews responded, and the woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.

After investigating, police took Irell Smith, 30, of Enfield, into custody. He was charged with multiple crimes, including two counts of first-degree sexual assault, robbery, strangulation, assault, and possession of a dangerous weapon. Smith is being held on a $1 million bond, officers said.

Police also arrested Lashauna Bourne, 43, of Enfield, in connection with the incident. She was charged with assault, breach of peace, and interfering with an officer, investigators said. Bourne was held on a $10,000 bond.

All charges are allegations. Those arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
