Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today.

ENFIELD, CT — Today we revive our periodic Enfield history series featuring old photos of local businesses and landmarks, and what that site looks like today.
What used to be billed as "New England's oldest floor covering store," the Moore Rug Co. at 555 Enfield St. was established in 1920. The family-run business operated for more than 95 years, featuring a showroom with a large selection of carpets, area rugs, tile, hardwood and vinyl, as well as laminate flooring.
The Enfield St. building was constructed in 1936, and in 1959, the business was purchased by Jack and Dot Whiteley, who carried on for another half-century, eventually turning it over to sons Jack and Kevin.

In 2017, Moore Rug closed up shop after nearly a century of service, and the white 3,880 square foot building was sold in Feb. 2018. It currently serves as home to the Going to the Chapel Dress Shop, as seen here.
