The annual meeting should be very informative again this year as Virginia de Lima who worked for the U.S Geological Survey in Water Resources for over 30 years prior to her retiring in 2014 will be our main speaker. The first 10 years of her career were as a groundwater modeler (she did the model of the site that was featured in the book and then the movie “A Civil Action”) and the remainder as a manager, heading up the USGS offices first in Rhode Island and then in Connecticut.
Her presentation, “Water 101” was first developed for the Legislature’s Environment Committee recognizing that people making important decisions about water did not fully understand how all water is connected and how decisions in one area can affect what happens in other areas.. The presentation aims to clarify how water works to a non-scientific audience
An update on the Scantic River Greenway Trails, and the continuous river monitoring program taken place on the Scantic will also round out the evening.
