Several Oddities Found On Orange Road Signs In Northern Connecticut

Spelling errors, mismeasured distances and political correctness have all been exhibited on orange signs in the area in recent weeks.

In the past, Patch has run occasional pictorial features showing bad spelling errors on signs throughout northern Connecticut. It has been quite some time since we've last done that, and for a slightly different, our focus today is on orange road signs.

Drive anywhere in Connecticut and you're bound to eventually see at least one, if not all four, of the state icons: the state flag (the orange sign), the state bird (the orange cone), the state tree (the orange barrel) and the state flower (the orange mesh fencing).

In recent weeks, some incongruities and just plain outright mistakes have been noticed on orange signs in the region. Here is a light-hearted look at some of them.

The New Math?

I realize I'm just taking a visual estimate here, but even in my advanced age, I'd bet my last dollar it is not 2,500 feet from this sign to the bridgework. 25 feet I can buy, but not 2,500.

A Letter "R" Missing

I tried looking up "stucture" in the dictionary and kept coming up empty. All I know is I don't want to ruin the underside of my car on a raised stucture, never mind a structure.

Political Correctness

A recent renovation project in Thompsonville prompted signs to be posted on opposite ends of a sidewalk, about 20 feet apart, to assist motorists. One says "Flagman Ahead," while the other has the "...man" crossed out, in Sharpie or electrical tape or something.

Very Un-PC

And we can't believe the politically-correct police (AKA the Keyboard Kowboys) haven't ordered the immediate beheading of the person who put this vintage 1998-era sign out on Tunnel Road in Vernon.
