A Voice for the Community that Represents the Community: Why Maya Nicole Matthews is right for District 4
A Homegrown Leader that will Make Enfield Proud

I have lived in Enfield since 2019, and it really feels like one of those big small towns. I mean that in the sense that while it is arguably the most significant town industry and population-wise between Hartford and Springfield, it’s also a place where personal connections and thinking local are extremely important. We see the impact of the community in Enfield every day. And that goes for local elections too: the people running to represent us are our neighbors, colleagues, and friends. I feel lucky in District 4 because we have Maya Nicole Matthews running to represent us on the Town Council.
I met Maya shortly after moving to Enfield, and quickly found her to be the kind of person you want to know and want to work with. She is a natural leader, using her experiences and critical thinking to unite people and create positive changes, rather than just push an agenda through. She cares about the right results, not just what is easy. She is the person you want solving problems; she’s not a follower. She has proven this through her work with Enfield Loaves and Fishes, the Enfield Fourth of July Committee, and the Opera House Players where she is already helping create a brighter future for Enfield.
If Maya is elected, she will also be, from what I’ve deduced, the first woman of color to serve on Enfield’s Town Council. Enfield is a diverse community with people of many different backgrounds, and the type of representation Maya would provide is certainly overdue. This is worth celebrating, especially with it being the result of someone who grew up in and came from Enfield. Maya is an example of what someone from Enfield can become.

Local elections are so important; they have the most direct impact on our everyday lives. And rather than look at who’s in which party, and how those people will conform to national politics, I’m looking for someone who is focused on Enfield. I’m looking for someone who can work with people of different backgrounds. I’m looking for someone with a vision for Enfield, and who has developed that vision because they have been doing the hard work in town already. I’m looking for someone who I trust, who cares about me, and cares about the people of Enfield. All the people.
Maya is that person. And I cannot wait to see the incredible things she does on the Town Council.
