World War II Veterans From Enfield Sought For Commemorative Ceremony

ENFIELD, CT — In partnership with Connecticut Veterans Affairs Commissioner Ron Welch and Major General Francis Evon of the Connecticut National Guard, the office of Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz will host a ceremony to thank members of the "Greatest Generation."

The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at the Governor William A. O’Neill State Armory at 360 Broad Street, Hartford. All World War II veterans are invited to attend.

The town of Enfield is working with Enfield’s veteran organizations to contact all World War II veterans currently residing in town. If you are or know of a veteran that served in our military during Dec. 7, 1941 through Dec. 31, 1946, you are requested to contact Enfield Town Clerk Sheila Bailey at 860-253-6438 or email sbailey@enfield.org. The veteran’s information must be received by April 5 to coordinate with Bysiewicz’ office.

The ceremony will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, which concluded in Sept. 1945. Transportation will be provided from Enfield to the State Armory for the veteran and one escort.

Bysiewicz said, "It is important to thank these members of the Greatest Generation as it is because of their service and sacrifice that we live in a free and democratic state and nation today."
