- Deep River is celebrating 75 years of independence. According to a Facebook post from the town of Deep River, "although Deep River has been on the map as a named community for more than 150 years, it was originally part of greater Saybrook, settled as a colony in 1635. As other towns split away, Deep River became the last remaining community to be part of Saybrook. In 1947 it officially changed its name. The town was named after the Deep River, a small but powerful tributary to the Connecticut River, which has helped drive centuries of manufacturing and innovation. Deep River continues to honor its colonial legacy as it has evolved into a vibrant and modern community. We are proud to celebrate Deep River’s name, its history, its people and its future. Please join in the celebration on Saturday, Sept. 17. Activities all day including a parade down Main Street beginning at 3 p.m." (Town of Deep River via Facebook)
- Little House Brewing Company in downtown Chester has chosen Valley Safe Grad collaborating with Tri-Town Youth Services Bureau 501(c)(3), to donate to, for its Giving Tap Program in October! Stop in, have a pint and support Safe Grad! (Valley Safe Grad via Facebook)
- Chester resident and long-time lacrosse coach Skip Flanagan will be inducted into the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame in November. Already a member of the United States Lacrosse Association Hall of Fame (both in Connecticut and Ohio) Skip's love and passion for the game has been celebrated. According to a Zip06 article, Skip said, “It’s a nice honor. I’ve been in coaching for half of a century. This is a different level. It’s the most prestigious award for a secondary school coach. This is as high as you can go.” The article goes on to say, "Before he was a coach, Skip played lacrosse starting in 7th grade and played his high school lacrosse at St. Paul’s in Maryland. After graduating from high school, Skip earned degrees from Rutgers, Michigan, and Harvard, playing lacrosse for both Rutgers and Michigan. During his coaching career, Skip has had stops at The Peddie School in New Jersey, the Western Reserve Academy, Princeton University, the University of Michigan, the English national team, and now at Avon Old Farms. He’s also served as the headmaster at Western Reserve Academy." Congratulations Skip! (Zip06)
